After being named "Animal of the Month," Kevin struggles to fill out his "adoption profile" on the Furrever Friends website. In order to figure out what type of person he's looking for, Kevin decides to hit the streets with Cupcake to see her New York. An excited Judy escorts Armando to his nail appointment, but they both end up going home with an unlikely potential human companion.
Kevin and Judy try to be mentors to the out-of-control new kittens who flood the rescue. Armando is coaxed into returning to the theater as the director of an all-horse production of a beloved American musical. His return is spoiled by the unexpected appearance of his rival... Broadway legend Patti LuPony. Seth and Brandi turn to Cupcake for help in getting the new kittens ready to be adopted.
Kevin impulsively tells Franny that he wants to take their relationship to the next level. Cupcake thwarts Armando's attempt to escape into lucid dreaming. Seth tries to save runaway dogs to impress Brandi. Judy helps Peter impress his visiting parents.
A new strain of Kennel Cough forces Kevin and the rest of animals into quarantine. They turn on each other as mob mentality causes an obsession over identifying "Patient Zero." Armando finds himself at odds with Patti LuPony when he refuses to cancel Mame rehearsals despite being sick. Brandi feels betrayed by Seth's insistence on including her in the quarantine protocols.
A heat wave leads Armando to seek refuge with a wealthy woman in the Hamptons (voiced by MARIA BAMFORD). Kevin, avoiding offers of help from Dan and Dana, begs Armando to bring him along. Cupcake tries to escape the heat by finally spending the night with one of her casual hook-ups, a pitbull named Mia. Judy is left alone in the rescue to contend with ants seeking shelter.
